The Joint Clinical Research Centre (JCRC) Mbarara Regional Centre of Excellence, located within Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital in southwestern Uganda, is a leading clinical research and healthcare facility within JCRC’s national network, supporting high-quality clinical trials and observational studies across HIV/AIDS, infectious diseases, and non-communicable diseases; it benefits from over 30 years of JCRC research experience, strong clinical, laboratory, and data management capacity, and advanced diagnostic infrastructure, and its strategic location within a major referral hospital provides access to a diverse patient population, enabling strong participant recruitment, retention, and compliance with international ethical and regulatory standards, making it a trusted site for multi-center clinical trials.

The Joint Clinical Research Centre (JCRC) Fort Portal Regional Centre of Excellence, located within Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital in western Uganda, is a key clinical research and healthcare facility serving the wider Rwenzori region, including multiple surrounding districts; as part of the national JCRC network, it supports high-quality clinical trials and observational studies with strong experience in infectious diseases, particularly HIV/AIDS, while integrating research with comprehensive clinical services and well-established laboratory support, and it is actively engaged in community outreach to improve access to care and strengthen participant recruitment and retention, making it a trusted site for ethically sound clinical research supported by JCRC’s long-standing expertise.

Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation Uganda is a leading health and research organization established in 2006, recognized for delivering high-quality clinical care and impactful research, and has grown into one of the largest pediatric and adolescent HIV programs globally; it conducts a broad clinical research portfolio including HIV, tuberculosis, maternal and child health, and global health security studies, supported by strong infrastructure such as a CAP-accredited laboratory, DAIDS-approved pharmacy, and robust regulatory and data systems, while its strategic base at Mulago National Referral Hospital and nationwide network of partner facilities provide access to diverse populations and strong capacity for participant recruitment, retention, and ethical, high-quality clinical trial implementation.

Universidade Eduardo Mondlane, located in Maputo, Mozambique, is the country’s oldest and largest public university and a leading centre for health sciences education and research, playing a key role in advancing clinical and public health studies through its Faculty of Medicine and affiliated research centres; it has extensive experience in conducting clinical trials and observational studies, particularly in HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria, supported by collaborations with international research institutions and global health networks that enable participation in multi-center studies, and is strengthened by well-established clinical, laboratory, and multidisciplinary research infrastructure that ensures compliance with international ethical standards and Good Clinical Practice, while its strategic location and links to teaching hospitals provide access to diverse patient populations and strong capacity for recruitment, retention, and community engagement in clinical research.

University of Zimbabwe, located in Harare, is Zimbabwe’s premier public university and a leading centre for medical education, clinical training, and research, playing a key role in advancing clinical and public health studies in Zimbabwe and the Southern African region; through its Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and affiliated teaching hospitals, it has extensive experience in clinical trials and epidemiological research, particularly in HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, and emerging non-communicable diseases, and collaborates with international academic institutions and research sponsors in multi-center studies, supported by strong clinical, laboratory, and multidisciplinary research infrastructure that ensures compliance with international ethical standards and Good Clinical Practice, while its strong linkage to major referral hospitals provides access to diverse patient populations and robust capacity for participant recruitment, retention, and community engagement in clinical research.
